CYCLING

For the keen cyclists the foothills of the Pyrennees are a real challenge - on a clear day the magnificent views make the effort well worth while. The rue des cimes which skirts the lower reaches of the mountains above Biarritz is particularly attractive although it is becoming more and more popular with motorists nowadays.
There are many interesting mountain routes and the Tourist Information offices will be able to advise which ones can be attempted from Labenne in a single day's ride.

Since most of the land along the Aquitaine coast was reclaimed from dunes it tends to be quite flat and easy for cycling. Cycling is a very popular with the French and so cycle-hire (racers, mountain or plodders) is easy.
As with walking, the picturesque track along the banks of the river Boudigau from Labenne to Cap Breton can be enjoyed by all ages - it is not open to motor vehicules but can be taken by bike, rollerblades or on foot.
