RAFTING
The river Nive is slow and wide when it joins the Adour at Bayonne but its upper reaches are fast flowing with excellent rapids for white water canoeing and rafting. The rafting is great fun and requires no previous experience (except the ability to swim). The expeditions start at Navarrenx where lifejackets are fitted and safety drills completed, before the coach take you to Sauveterre from where the downstream journey (back to Navarrenx) begins. There are two main expedition runs:
- Safe pleasure trips along twenty three kilometres of river on large inflatable rafts, for people from four to seventy-seven. A delightful experience enhanced by a barbeque served by your pilot/crewman at a riverside glade.
- For enthusiastic beginners in search of sporting excitement you can, after a short coaching session, raft by yourself using three and four seat mini-rafts. For a break at lunchtime, you will be led on a short treck into the riverside woodland for a BBQ - with food prepared for you by the staff.
